8-day Self Drive Tour through the Lithuania

Trip programme:

Day 1: Vilnius 
Flight to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Transfer to the hotel in Vilnius. Check-in and overnight stay.
Day 2: Vilnius
Independent sightseeing of Vilnius, the Old Town of which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city impresses with its unity, many winding streets and alleys, old town houses, archways and numerous churches. Visit the Baroque Church of St. Casimir, the Gate of Dawn, the Church of St. Peter and Paul – a Baroque masterpiece, the ensemble of one of the oldest universities in Central Europe, the Gothic ensemble of St. Anne’s Church and many more. Take a walk through the famous and legendary artists’ quarter “Uzupis”. There is so much to discover here. Overnight stay in Vilnius.
Day 3: Vilnius - Trakai - Kaunas (approx. 125km)
Pick-up of the rental car at the hotel. Drive to Trakai, the so-called "city on the water". The small town is known for its Gothic castle from the 14th century, which lies in the middle of beautiful lake landscape. Our tip: taste Karaims’ speciality “Kibinai”. Continue your journey to Kaunas. The second largest city in Lithuania is known for its picturesque old town with a whole series of buildings worth seeing and many churches. The highlight of this day will be a visit to the baroque Pazaislis Monastery. Impressive are not only the picturesque location, the romantic monastery garden, but especially the magnificent interior design of the monastery church. Afterwards - check-in at the hotel in Kaunas. Overnight stay.
Day 4: Kaunas - along the Memel River - Nida (approx. 270km)
Today an impressive route awaits you, with small Lithuanian villages and many imposing castle and manor houses: Panemune, Raudone, Belvederis, Veliuona. Enjoy fantastic views of Lithuania's longest river - Nemunas. Continue the tour to Klaipeda. On the way we suggest you to visit Aukstumala high moor, Vente Cape Ornithological Station, the fishermen’s villages Kintai, Dreverna or Priekule. Arrival in Klaipeda, check-in at the hotel. Free time at leisure. 
Day 5: Excursion to the Curonian Spit (approx. 100km)
Independent exploration of the beautiful Curonian Spit, which is known for its untouched nature with huge shifting sand dunes, thatched fishermen's houses and endless sandy beaches. In the fishing village of Nida, visit the High Dune with sundial, the Protestant church with ethnographic cemetery, the famous Thomas Mann House. Continue your journey towards Juodkrante and make another short detour in Pervalka to the Dead Dune. A visit here is a must. In the fishing village of Juodkrante, explore the cormorant colony, the legendary Hill of Witches, the old villa district, and the Amber Bay. Return to Klaipeda. Overnight stay.
Day 6: Nida - Palanga - Plateliai - Siauliai (approx. 242km)
Drive to the seaside resort Palanga, situated on the Baltic coast and famous for its Amber Museum in the former castle of Count Tyszkiewisz. Afterwards, explore the Zemaitija - an ethnic region of Lithuania. The main tourist attractions on your route are: Lake Plateliai with the Cold War Museum; Village Berzoras with the St. Stanislaus church and the fourteen Stations of the Cross chapels; The duke Oginskiai Manor and Park in Plunge; Telsiai - the capital of Zemaitija, built on seven hills on the shores of Lake Mastis and famous for its St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral. Continue the journey to Siauliai. Check-in at the hotel. Overnight stay.
 
 
Day 7: Siauliai - Anyksciai - Labanoras (approx. 200km)
Visit the Hill of Crosses – the most significant sacral place of pilgrimage in Lithuania. Next sightseeing point awaits you in Anyksciai. Take an unforgettable journey on the walking path along the treetops with a breathtaking view. Continue your tour to the Labanoras Regional Park. There are so many exciting things to do and to see: climb up the spiral staircase of the observation tower of Labanoras and be surprised of the stunning panorama; visit the Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping in Stripeikiai; discover the Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology in Moletai; be impressed of Paluse village. For the last night we have chosen something special for you. You will stay in an authentic family-run country inn "Labanoras" with excellent traditional cuisine.
Day 8: Labanoras - Vilnius (approx. 90km)
Spend your morning in the Labanoras regional park – a natural paradise of deep, whispering forests and blue lakes. Continue the journey to Vilnius. Dropping off your hire car at the airport. Farewell to the Lithuania.
